Holly Race
Holly studied English at Oriel College, Oxford, before embarking on a career in theatre. Her first professional show was an adaptation of Helen Oyeyemi’s The Icarus Girl at the Arcola Theatre, which was ridiculously ambitious for a directorial debut, and something of a nightmare to stage, but a great learning curve. She went on to direct Sexual Ironing (Etcetera Theatre), Bed & Absurdities (Brighton Fringe), Everyday Fairytales (outdoor performance), Folk (Horseshoe Theatre), The Translator, Outside In, A Sudden Visitation of Calamity and Push the Button (all at the Junction), and Romeo and Juliet (Leper Chapel). She was assistant director on A Woman Thing (Windsor Fringe), King Arthur (Arcola Theatre), The Siren Song of Stephen Jay Gould (Bridewell Theatre), The Mayday (Lightning Ensemble) and The Doubtful Guest (Hoipolloi). She worked as a script reader for the Old Vic and Hampstead Theatres and Golconda Films. She completed a literary internship at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco (which was amazing – the stage door looked out onto the Golden Gate Bridge!) and worked as Menagerie’s Literary Associate for a year. Her film credits include Feature (dir. Shezad Dawood), Born of Hope (dir. Kate Madison) and Teen Patti (dir. Leena Yadav). She currently works for Artichoke Productions as their Communications Associate, on large scale arts events such as La Machine (the giant spider in Liverpool), One & Other (Antony Gormley’s controversial fourth plinth project) and Lumiere (the pretty light festival in Durham). When she grows up she wants to be a TV producer and write children’s books.
